THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS – Onsite and Online!
This 6 week course introduces Buddha’s revolutionary message that suffering can come to an end through one’s own efforts.
Following Gelek Rimpoche’s transcript Four Noble Truths participants rely on readings, discussion and meditation. The course will be facilitated by Jewel Heart Instructor, Hartmut Sagolla.
This course is available onsite at the Birmingham Unitarian Church at 38651 Woodward Avenue, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304 and Online via GoToMeeting.

Hartmut Sagolla has been a student of Gelek Rimpoche, the founder of Jewel Heart, since 1984. After living in a Dharma Center in Australia for 15 years he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan in 2002 to work with Rimpoche as a Program Director of Jewel Heart, organizing and teaching classes, courses and workshops, guiding meditation retreats and transcribing and editing Gelek Rimpoche’s teachings. In 2011 he opened a Jewel Heart Study Group in the Birmingham Unitarian Church, offering regular meditation – and Buddhist classes throughout the year. In addition to facilitating courses and meditation workshops throughout Jewel Heart, Hartmut has also led meditation programs at Google, worked with various Michigan prisons on meditation, and participated at Veterans Affairs in Ann Arbor as part of a research program on mindfulness through the University of Michigan.
THE HEALING PRACTICE OF WHITE TARA
Tara is the mother goddess of Tibetan Buddhism, known for her quick and compassionate activity. She is particularly associated with healing and long life. This course uses visualization techniques relying on feminine energy of White Tara to overcome physical, mental and emotional suffering.

BOUNDLESS COMPASSION – ACCELERATING THE JOURNEY TO ENLIGHTENMENT
Great Compassion is the need of our time. Never before have all human beings been more closely connected and dependent on each other than now. Furthermore, in personal spiritual development, love and compassion help us get beyond an egocentric mind state and thus accelerate our journey to Enlightenment. This course is part of the series “Odyssey to Freedom”.

The SEM course runs on Thursdays for 12 weeks between October 13, 2016 and February 2, 2017 with special guest speakers and Jewel Heart Instructors.

ENGAGING WISDOM AND COMPASSION
Embodying Great Compassion through the Six Transcendent Activities of giving, discipline, patience, perseverance, concentration and wisdom is the culmination of the spiritual path. In this course, the final part of the series “Odyssey to Freedom”, we will explore in meditation and discussion how to apply Buddha’s central message in daily life.

GOM, a method to develop concentrated meditation, is an essential tool that helps develop peace and joy as well as the power to deeply understand wisdom. Training in concen¬tration gives the mind a stability and suppleness that enables it to function well in daily life, regardless of the conditions. Moreover, a mind that is thus trained is the prerequisite to focus deeply on the true nature of reality.
