Concentration Meditation – Help yourself through meditation. Facilitators provide basic guidance with multiple concentration meditation sessions using the breath as the point of focus. Open to all levels of experience.

White Tara Guided Healing Meditation – Tara is the mother goddess of Tibetan Buddhism, known for her quick and compassionate activity. She is particularly associated with healing and long life. Join us for a guided meditation using visualization techniques to overcome physical, mental and emotional suffering.

Tai Chi – Learn the ancient art of meditation in motion with this ‘soft style’ martial art emphasizing relaxation and balance. Suggested donation $5

Knitting Social – All welcome to join in for conversation and knitting projects. Meets monthly. You will find the schedule in the left hand column of this page.

GOM Practice Weekends at Jewel Heart in April and July

Saturday, April 25/Sunday, April 26 and Friday, July 31 – Sunday, August 2

GOM, or concentrated meditation, is an essential tool to help develop peace and joy as well as the power to deeply understand wisdom. This meditation weekend intensive, offered according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition includes practice sessions with light guidance. Silence will be maintained between sessions. Practice sessions include sitting and walking meditations. Instructors will be available for your assistance. THE FOUR NOBLE TRUTHS

This course introduces Buddha’s revolutionary message that suffering can come to an end through one’s own efforts. Following Gelek Rimpoche’s transcript Four Noble Truths, participants rely on readings, discussion and meditation.

Bring your friends and enjoy a free film and discussion about dharma and the film. Concessions are also available.

April 24 – FREE THE MIND (2012) – A documentary about the work of renowned neurologist Richard Davidson, on the nature of consciousness and the results of his studies in helping soldiers with PTSD and kids with ADHD.

May 29 – WHY NOT NOW! (2014) A documentary film on the life and work of spiritual entertainer Alan Watts.

June 12 – THE NEVERENDING STORY (1984) – A troubled boy dives into a wondrous fantasy world through a mysterious book.

July 24 – K-PAX (2001) – Prot, a mental hospital patient, claims to be from a faraway planet. Trying to help him, his psychiatrist begins to doubt his own explanations.

August 21 – THE GOD QUESTION (2014) – A scientist asks an experimental super-intelligent computer the ultimate question – Is there evidence for God, for a spiritual framework to life? To his astonishment, it arrives at an answer.

SAKADAWA DAY

Tuesday, June 2, is Sakadawa Day. Precepts will be given at the Jewel Heart Ann Arbor center. Please arrive by 5:30am. Sunrise is at 6am. We will begin at 5:45 sharp.

We continue our celebration on Saturday, June 6 from 10-11:30 by chanting the mantra of Shakyamuni Buddha within guided meditation. All are welcome to both events.

INTRODUCTION TO TIBETAN BUDDHIST MEDITATION

Meditation is an important tool on the spiritual path, helping to develop focus, stability, insight and understanding. In addition to more commonly known concentration methods, we will also experience analytical and visualization meditations on various topics.
