FEMALE BUDDHAS: Celebration of the Feminine in the Buddhist Tantric Tradition
Friday, February 12, 7 – 9pm

The Dalai Lama was once asked on the difference of male and female practitioners in terms of the Buddhist attitude toward and practice for enlightenment. He replied, “In the sutra side, men seem to have something of an advantage. In tantric practice, women have the advantage.” This presentation explores the how and why of the Dalai Lama’s statement.

EMPTINESS, MEDITATION AND ACTION: Guidelines from the Tantric Tradition

Saturday, February 13, 10am – 5pm
Sunday afternoon, February 14, 2 – 4pm

There are many ways to speak about the Buddhist path to enlightenment. One important system is known as ta cho gom, or “view, action, meditation.” Here “view” refers to the perfect balance of emptiness and appearance; meditation refers to the kind of mental focus and engagement that produces enlightenment; and action refers to how we carry these two into all aspects of our daily life.

These three can be taught in both sutra and tantra ways, in other words, from the perspective of the ordinary appearance of things, and from the perspective of the extraordinary perspective of the tantric yogas. The former is generally engaged as the foundations of the latter. The former alone requires many lifetimes for the attainment of enlightenment; the latter, when engaged correctly and under a qualified master, easily produces enlightenment in one lifetime.
