LAM RIM: Stages on the Path, Part 4, DEMO RINPOCHE

In the Lam Rim, Buddha’s teachings are presented step by step to allow gradual experiential awareness and understanding of our inner and outer world. Through this process, we can transform challenges and confusion encountered in everyday life to the extraordinary compassion and wisdom of enlightenment.

MINDFULNESS 1: Stability and Insight through Meditation 

Mondays, 7 – 8:30pm
January 6, 13, 20, 27, February 3, 17, March 2 – No session February 10

Meditation provides us with a clear stable mind, necessary for a happy life and the foundation for deepening our spiritual journey. This course offers hands-on experience including basic elements of using the breath, posture and techniques for coping with distractions and mental laxity.

DAY OF MEDITATION

Saturday, January 11 and April 25, 8:30am – 6pm

This day of meditation, open to all experience levels and offered according to the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, will include practice sessions and light guidance. Instructors will be available for assistance. Silence will be enjoyed throughout the day.

MINDFULNESS 2: Deepening Awareness through Meditation

Becoming more aware of our thoughts, feelings and sensations through meditation opens the door to understanding the nature of our mind and how it influences our experience. While this course is open to all, it is recommended to follow Mindfulness 1.

GOOD LIFE, GOOD DEATH: The Art of Living

Thursdays, 7 – 8:30pm

We long for meaning, for an effective way to bring insight and hear to the ordinary circumstances and the inevitable challenges of our daily lives. On the basis of Gelek Rimpoche’s book Good Life, Good Death we will explore pragmatic methods to bring meaning and joy to our lives.

LETTING GO: Helping ourselves and our loved ones prepare for our passing – POSTPONED

The death and dying process, while difficult to face, is certain reality for us all. In this workshop we will explore compassionate methods to help ease the passage of our loved ones as well as for our own time of transition. The stages of the dying process, as understood in the Tibetan Buddhism, will also be presented. Colleen Retherford will facilitate this workshop.

February 28 – THE HEALER (2017)
Discovering he has the gift of healing, a young man is aided in his struggle to understand his gift and the new reality it offers by a teenage girl with terminal cancer.

March 27 – OLD FASHIONED (2014) 
This film is a beautiful, moving, old-fashioned love story, in the true sense of that phrase.

April 24 – THE WISDOM TREE (2013)
In a meditative sci-fi journey, eastern spirituality, ethereal music and sublime art mingle mystically with neuroscience and quantum physics, entwining three lives and deepening a timeless mystery.

White Tara Guided Healing Meditation – Tara is the mother goddess of Tibetan Buddhism, known for her quick and compassionate activity. She is particularly associated with healing and long life. Join us for a guided meditation using visualization techniques to overcome physical, mental and emotional suffering. Free and open to all. Buddhist experience is not required.

Sunday Afternoons
4 – 5:30pm ~ Weekly Wu Style Tai Chi with Marilyn Feingold

Tai Chi – Learn the ancient art of meditation in motion with this ‘soft style’ martial art emphasizing relaxation and balance. Suggested donation $5  Please Note: no session on October 13.
