Jewel Heart is pleased to announce that HH Drikung Kyabgon, the 37th throne holder of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, has graciously accepted our invitation to visit and give the Phowa teachings and initiation. In addition, he will give the Great Siddha Thang Tong Gyalpo longevity initiation.

Drikung Rinpoche, and the Drikung lineage itself, is famous for its phowa, also known as the transfer of consciousness. Our late teacher, Kyabje Gelek Rimpoche, has pointed out that this ritual “sort of gives you a glimpse of what your future life could be.”

Thang Tong Gyalpo (1385-1464) was a great Buddhist adept, chö master, yogi, physician, blacksmith, architect, and a pioneering civil engineer. He is considered a mind emanation of the great Tibetan master, Padmasambhava, and a reincarnation of Dolpopa Sherab Gyaltsen. He founded the Iron Chain lineage of the Shangpa Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, and he recognized the first Samding Dorje Phagmo, Drönma (1422–1455), the female incarnation lineage of Vajravarahi. He is also known as a sorcerer character in the popular Tibetan story of Gesar. (Cyrus Stearns 2007, p. 5-6)

This will be HH Drikung Kyabgon’s only visit to the Midwest this year and we are very fortunate to have this opportunity to sponsor his visit.
