Introduction to Lama Chopa Tsoh
STATUE-FILLING WORKSHOP with SONAM DHARGYE
The Jewel Heart New York Center is excited to announce that ritual arts master, Sonam Dhargye will be conducting a 2-part workshop beginning on May 1. This will be a rare opportunity to learn how to consecrate your statues and invoke the living presence of the Enlightened.
Sonam will teach participants the purpose of filling the statues, how to clean and prepare them, how to cut and roll the 27 mantras prepared by the monks of Gyuto Monastery in India. The first day will be spent cutting and rolling the mantras he brought from his recent trip to India. When he returns in July, he will supervise filling the statues with all the mantras plus other special materials.
During this 2nd session, each statue will be filled at the head-throat-heart level with the mantras prepared by the Gyuto monks. Specific deities will be filled with their specific mantras. Please note, that estimated time to fill a 6”h statue is approximately 2hrs. The statues must be filled while Sonam is here.
As an infant, Sonam had the incredible distinction of being carried to India in the party fleeing Tibet with Gelek Rimpoche in 1959. As a young boy, he entered the esteemed Gyuto Monastery and after completing his monastic exams, entered a rigorous training program which included making tormas, sand mandalas, musical instruments and ritual chants. At Gyuto, he was the ritual and chant master for many years. Since arriving in the US in 1992, he has assisted Gelek Rimpoche at many vajryana rituals and has instructed Jewel Heart umdzes. He supervised the construction of a magnificent 12’ butter sculpture and a sand mandala offered to His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama for his 2008 teachings in Ann Arbor, MI.

Workshop fee: $30 per day for all participants.
Teacher donation: $20 per day.
