The Young Incarnate Lama Fund

Jewel Heart provides financial support for young Tibetan lamas training in monasteries-in-exile in India. The Young Incarnate Lama Fund assists future Buddhist teachers to continue the work of preserving Tibetan Buddhism and culture, and assures that many important Tibetan Buddhist lineages will remain available in this and future lives. In addition, Jewel Heart - the Netherlands has given regular financial support to one young incarnate lama in Drepung through the Helen Memorial Scholarship.

Kongpo Province School

Jewel Heart provides financial support through the Tibet Development Fund in Lhasa for the development of schools for the children of Kongpo. Kongpo is the region in southeastern Tibet where Gelek Rimpoche's father's monastery was located, and is a poor rural area where children have little or no access to schools.

Feeding Orphans and the Physically Challenged

Working again through the Tibet Development Fund, Jewel Heart provides lunch each day to the 50 students in a school for orphans and the physically challenged in Jatson Chumik, Lhasa, Tibet. The school trains its students in traditional Tibetan arts and crafts so that they may be self-supporting. 100% of all funds collected for this project to date have gone directly to feeding the students, without administrative costs enroute.

Namling County School Project

Working with Tashi Tsering, a Western educated Tibetan who lives and works in Lhasa, Jewel Heart has supported the Namling County Schools Project, which builds schools in remote, underserved areas of Namling County, Shigatse Prefecture, Tibet. The schools teach village children Tibetan language and basic mathematics, and open the door to government schools and higher education. The Project aims to promote literacy, preserve the Tibetan language and culture, and enable Tibetans to compete and survive in greater China. Jewel Heart supports the Project through the sale of Tibetan-made carpets available at the Jewel Heart Store in Ann Arbor, and at the Jewel Heart Store online.
